Well, I got to thinking. Since I started this little idea (‘Indie by Indie’), maybe you all would want to know a little about me. (At least, I hope so.)
So, I’ve decided to just answer my own questions that I’ve sent out to other authors. That way you can get inside my head a little.
1. Tell us about you, the person. What do you do when you are not writing? Hobbies? Guilty Pleasures?
I am a mother of 2, ages 12 & 14. I have been married to my dear husband for 18 years this December. He recently retired from the military and we are now living back in my home town of Olive Branch, MS. Olive Branch is just over the state line from Memphis, TN. So, sometimes you will here me say that I live in Memphis. It’s just easier to say that, because most everyone knows where Memphis is.
I will be turning the big 4-0 in September and I am having mixed feelings on the subject!
When I am not writing, I usually do my chores (grocery shopping, Wal-Mart, or grab a bite to eat with a friend or two). My main source of entertainment is when there is a concert in town. I support music, not only in my writing, but in real everyday life.
Guilty Pleasures….Well, let’s see…..Fried Chicken and ponytails.
2. What genre(s) do you write? Can you give little insight as to why you write in that genre?
I write Paranormal Romance and Erotica. Paranormal is my first love, although my Rockstar Erotic Romance books have taken up most of my time.
I love vampires of all kinds. Yes! I am a HUGE Twilight fan, I have seen the movies too many times to count and read the books even more. I also am a sucker for Underworld movies, and if I swung that way, I’d totally get busy in the sack with Kate Beckinsale. Lucian is my favorite character in that movie series, because…um, HELLO! Michael Sheen has this way of making his voice change to the deep, sexy, and sultry alpha that means business! Whew!
3. Grab your iPod…Hit Shuffle, and tell us what the third song on the list is. Does that song have a special meaning to you, or is it simply awesome?
Ohhh…Okay..3rd song on the list is “Strange” by the band W.E.R.M. This whole band has meaning for me. First off, the song…It is about living differently than everyone else and being okay with it. The first part of the song says, “I live with the normal, yeah, I’m in love with the strange.” Secondly, the drummer, Nate Mullins, is a very good friend of mine, and is the model on the cover of Kane’s book…”A Glory Days Reunion”. You should read the dedication in the book when it comes out July 29th, and that will tell you more about our friendship.
4. Pimp your book(s)! Start with your first release and end with your next release. Throw in a little synopsis of each, if you’d like.
The very first book I published is “Sing To Me” and is the first novella in “A Glory Days Production“. I wrote Ash and Mary’s story in 3 novellas, then decided to put them into one paperback, because a friend of mine was desperate to read them and she didn’t have/or want and ereader.
The Glory Days books are all like the first. Three novellas written, then put into a paperback available on Amazon.com The newest one will be the July 29th release of “A Glory Days Reunion“.
My paranormal romance, “Blood & Roses: Warriors of the Krieger” is available in ebook only at this time. This book was written just over 5 years ago, when my husband was deployed to Iraq. My best friend gave me the idea to write a book to pass the time. I loved that story so much, that I held on to it and finally released it last year. You can find that on the Nook, iBooks, Kobo, Sony, and at Smashwords.com
5. How long have you been writing? When did you realize, that you wanted to share your stories with the world?
I started writing, like I said above, when my husband was deployed for 10 months to Iraq. My friend made a comment. Something along the lines of, “You should write a book. I bet you’d be good at it.” I crinkled my nose and laughed. But that night, I pulled out my computer and started writing. The first book was a silly story where I made all of my friends a paranormal creature and it was horribly written! I finished that book in about 4 moths.
After brainstorming this new world, I wrote “Blood & Roses” in the remaining time. And then I sat on it, and sat on it….and sat on it. My other friend read the first few chapters and fell in love with it. I continued to write every time Wayne (my dear husband) would deploy. Over his last 5 years of service, he’d be home for 10 months, then gone for 10, home for 10, and so on. I wrote several different stories, that I still have locked away on a drive in my little fireproof safe. Maybe one day, I will go back and see if any are worth publishing.
6. If you were stranded on a deserted island with three people, who would they be?
Well, to be honest….. Les Stroud, because he could keep us from dying. Jason Momoa, because…well, HELLO! and Matt DiRito, because he is my #mcm and I love that man. He is just yummy. Whew, thinking about that question suddenly makes me hungry for a sandwich!
7. What is the hardest part of the story to write? Beginning? Middle? End?
I’d say the middle. I always know how I want the story to begin, and definitely know how I want it to end. It’s all of the ‘fluff’ in the middle. Scenarios have to match up and you have to make sure they are relevant to the story.
8. If you could have ONE of your characters over for dinner, which one would you choose, and what would be on the table?
I’ve said this before. I think it would be Kane Maddox from “A Glory Days Reunion“, because his mind is so complicated, and I want to be inside of it more. As far as what’s on the table. We all know it would be Chinese food! His favorite!
9. Who inspired you to write?
There are three people in my life who inspired me, for different reasons. First, my friend Shannah for putting the bug in my ear to at least try. My friend Kelly, who read the first few chapters of “Blood & Roses” and begged me for years to let her read more. Unfortunately, Kelly was killed in a car wreck in November 2013 and was never able to read the book she so desperately fell in love with. And lastly, my dear beta reader, Sera. She is the one I trusted to give me the honest truth about what I’d started writing on the Glory Days books. If she hadn’t kicked my ass and made me finish it, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I love all three of these ladies and will forever be indebt to them for their support!
10. When you sit down to write and you are in the zone, describe the room around you? Is there music? Complete silence? Snack? Wine?
When I write, the music is BLARING in my ear. I must have a playlist for the night. Song may vary, depending on what I am writing. The flow of the music helps center me and makes my brain fire off all of the words I put to paper. I usually sit in my recliner, or in my office. I don’t ever watch t.v. while I write, because it does distract me.
11. If you could change the color of the sky, what color would it be?
I’d say the color red, because it is the color of blood, and red puts me back in the vampire world I love so much.
12. Where can we find you online? Post your links!
Blog/ Website: http://authortheresahissong.com
13. What do you prefer? E-Reader or physical book?
I prefer the digital ebooks, because they are easier to get. Bookstores are not open 24/7, but my Nook is. Now, I do get the paperback version of my favorite authors and I collect autographed copies of books as a hobby.
14. What is the ONE item you can’t leave home without? (You can only choose ONE)
Chapstick….I have an addiction!
15. Okay, last question….Tell us about your fans.
Oh, wow! My fans are the BEST! I try to communicate with each and every one of them on a personal level, when I can. They are the ones who keep me going, when I feel like I can’t do it anymore. Their love and excitement over the books amaze me DAILY! The support network of my fans is one to rival a best selling author, and I can’t tell them enough how much I truly love and appreciate them!!
Okay, there is my answers to my own questions. I hope you enjoyed a little insight into my head.
Much love, always!
